Barry was instrumental in upgrading radio coverage in the local area, the planning and lighting of the airstrip and instigating planning and construction of the current St. Johns Sub Centre. Barrie regularly attended monthly meetings and his contributions will be sadly missed. Members wish him and his wife Margaret the best in their retirement in Busselton.
Ruth Griffiths has given 32 years of dedicated service to St. Johns, commencing First Aid Classes in 1970, as the Matron was unwell at the time. She continued on gaining her National First Aid Trainer Certificate and travelled thousands of kilometres to surrounding districts with husband John as her driver and support crew to teach First Aid. During this time she taught many community groups including CDEP, Police staff, students at primary, secondary and Ag. Schools.
In 1972, Ruth became Committee Member and con
companied by a letter from the Queen. She also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Police Department for her work with teaching officers first aid, and the inaugural group of Aboriginal people to complete their Senior First Aid Certificate.
In 1998, Ruth was nominated for a Citizenship Award for her community work including First Aid and Ambulance involvement. Ruth is a valuable asset to our commuity and her care and advice will be missed. Members trust Ruth and John enjoy their semi retirement in Viveash, Perth.
